Comets News · Lady Comets Fall to Manchester

The Hanover-Horton Comets girls basketball team closed out its home schedule Thursday night falling in a close game to Manchester. The Comets honored six seniors playing in their final game at Hanover-Horton. Senior Kenadee Krage led the Comets with 12 points. Liv Watkins and Kennedy Wagner each scored 8 points. Emily Smith scored 6. Senior Taryan Pace scored 5 pointsSearah Bowker scored 1 point. Senior Abby Beneke, who was injured the first week of practice, came out for the opening tip. She returned to the game with 7 seconds remaining and scored the final basket of the game. Senior Jessica Bissell started but was held scoreless. Senior Elle Cure  is still recovering from an injury and couldn’t play.

The Lady Comets will open district play at 5:30 against Leslie at Lumen Christi.

The JV Lady Comets finished their season with an impressive 44-29 victory. 

Comets News · Boys Basketball Districts Are Set

The MHSAA District tournament brackets are set and Hanover-Horton will face Jonesville to open districts on Wednesday March 11 at Concord. Homer will face Reading to open the district on Monday March 9. The winner will then face Concord on Wednesday. The two Wednesday winners will face each other on Friday March 13 for the district title. The winner will move on to Springport to face the winner of the Bath District.

The Hanover-Horton girls basketball team will face Leslie at Jackson Lumen Christi on Monday March 2 at 5:30. The winner will face Napoleon on Wednesday.

Comets News · Lady Comets Run Past Jayhawks

The Hanover-Horton girls basketball team defeated Vandercook Lake Thursday evening 52-33. The Comets were led by Kenadee Krage who scored 16 points. Searah Bowker had 13, Liv Watkins 11, Kelsey DeForest 4, Kennedy Wagner and Emily Smith 3 each and Lauren Hassenzahl 2 points.  The Comets moved to 5-6 in conference play and will host Michigan Center next Tuesday.

Comets News · Lady Comets Surprise Trojans

The Hanover-Horton girls basketball team hosted 3rd place East Jackson Tuesday night and came away with an impressive 50-39 victory over the Trojans. East Jackson took a quick 12-5 lead in the first and tried to hold the ball for over a minute for the last shot in the quarter. After a traveling call, Kenadee Krage hit a 3-pointer and the momentum of the game changed. Solid defense with some inside scoring from Kelsey DeForest helped the Lady Comets to a 4-point halftime advantage. Liv Watkins took over in the 3rd scoring 10 points as the Comets extended their advantage.

Krage and Watkins led the Comets in scoring with 16 each. DeForest 6, Lillian Wooster 4, Lauren Hassenzahl and Searah Bowker 3 and Emily Smith 2 points for the Comets scoring.

The JV team lost a nail-biter in overtime to the Trojans. Hanover-Horton faces number 1 ranked Grass Lake at home on Thursday. 

Comets News · Lady Comets Defeat Addison

Thursday night the Lady Comets traveled to Addison and beat the Panthers 40-26. Hanover-Horton played excellent team defense holding Addison to 9 first half points and took a 27-9 halftime lead. The ladies cruised home from there with the win. Kennedy Wagner led the Comets with 9 points. She was joined by Liv Watkins with 8, Emily Smith and Kenadee Krage with 6,  Lilly Wooster and Searah Bowker each had 3, Kelsey DeForest and Lauren Hassenzahl had 2 apiece, and Jessie Bissell had 1 point.

There was no JV game as Addison is not carrying a JV team this year.  Both JV and Varsity are home next Tuesday against East Jackson

Comets News · Lady Comets Can’t Hold On Against Lumen

The Hanover-Horton Comets girls basketball team played one of their best halves in recent games in the first half Tuesday evening against Jackson Lumen Christi and took a 20-16 halftime lead. The Lady Comets couldn’t keep the lead long though as turnovers and cold shooting slowed them down while Lumen’s inside game began to take control. The Lady Comets fought hard but just couldn’t get over the hump in the 4th and never re-gained the lead.

Kennedy Krage led the Comets with 9 points. Kennedy Wagner added 6, Liv Watkins had 5, Searah Bowker 4, Lilly Wooster 3, and Elle Cure and Kelsey Deforest each had 2 points.

The JV Lady Comets defeated Lumen’s JV  37-29. The varsity will return to action this Thursday at 6:00 at Addison. The game begins at 6:00 because Addison does not have a JV team this year.

The Hanover-Horton Comets girls basketball team traveled to Manchester Friday night and fell to the Flying Dutchmen 53-30, Manchester started of hot hitting their first four shots taking a 18-0 lead en route to a 25-2 first quarter advantage. The Comets fought back but could never stay on a run long enough to get back in the game.

The JV Lady Comets also fell to Manchester in game that went down to the final seconds, losing 35-32

Comets News · Lady Comets Fall to Columbia-Central

The Hanover-Horton Comets girls basketball team played their 3rd ranked opponent in the last four games and lost to Brooklyn Columbia-Central 62-22. The Lady Comets fought hard and kept the game within striking distance until the 4th quarter.  The Comets visit Manchester this Friday.

The JV team defeated Columbia 55-15. 

Comets News · Lady Comets Run Past Addison

The Hanover-Horton Comets varsity girls basketball team opened conference play with a convincing 49-30 victory over Addison. Addison was the aggressor early in the game and took an 11-7 1st quarter lead. The Comets came back in the 2nd with strong defense and took a 16-13 advantage into the locker room. The game was tight in the 3rd and Addison had a 2-point advantage when the Comets scored 10 straight fast break points to open it up and they never looked back. Kenadee Krage led the Comets with 13 points. Lauren Hassenzahl scored a career high 11 points and Elle Cure had a career high 7 points. Also scoring for the Comets was Kennedy Wagner with 5, Emily Smith and Searah Bowker had 4, Lilly Magon 3 and Kelsey DeForest 2 points.

The JV Lady Comets defeated Lakewood 36-12. Starting the evening was the JV boys team who fell to Lakewood 57-51.

The JV Lady Comets play at Saline on Tuesday at 5:30. Both the JV and varsity are at East Jackson next Wednesday. 

Comets News · Basketball: Boys Defeat Marshall;Girls Fall to Jonesville

Both the boys and girls basketball teams were in action Tuesday evening in tough road contests.

The girls traveled to Jonesville and fell behind early in the game. The Comets fought back but Jonesville pulled away in the second half. The Lady Comets fell to 1-2 on the season and host Addison this Friday to open conference play. The girls JV team defeated Jonesville 31-29.

The boys opened their season at Marshall and thanks to a dominating 2nd quarter, won going away. Hanover-Horton built a first half lead of 23 and were never threatened again against a very good Marshall team. The Comets were led by Luc Laketa with 17 points, Rhett Laketa 15, and Trent Finegan with 5.

The JV team fell to Marshall 66-41. The varsity will return to action next Tuesday in the teams home opener against Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart.

The boys JV team will open a triple header this Friday at 4:00 against Lakewood JV. The JV girls will follow also against Lakewood and then the girls varsity will play Addison.
