The Hanover-Horton Comets earned their third straight conference title with an impressive 81-47 victory over Vandercook Lake Friday night. The Comets limited Vandercook to 29% shooting on the night and owned a 52-28 advantage on the boards.
Mitch Sauber started the night hitting three 3-pointers in the 1st quarter to help the Comets to get out to a fast start. The Jayhawks fought back and cut the deficit to 7 after the first. The 2nd quarter was owned by the Comets as they outscored Vandercook 28-5 to put the game away at half with a 50-20 lead. Vandercook fought hard the entire game but could never get closer than 24 points.
Sauber led all scorers with 19 points and he added 6 assists and 5 steals. Jack Brockie had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Trent Finegan had 11 points, Luc Laketa scored 10, grabbed 5 boards and dished out 6 assists. Brogan Brockie scored 9, Rhett Laketa had 8 with 10 rebounds and 4 assists, Conner Mortimer 4 points, Bryce Sanders 3, and Damon Preston 2 points for the Comets. Evan Keeder finished with 7 rebounds.
The Comets play their last home game of the season next Wednesday against Michigan Center.
The JV Comets came away with a strong victory over Vandercook also.
