For the 3rd straight year the Hanover-Horton boys basketball team can call itself Cascades Conference champions as the Comets defeated second place Napoleon 78-48 Wednesday night. The Comets can claim the title to themselves Friday at home against Vandercook Lake.
Hanover-Horton jumped out to a 12-0 lead 3 minutes into the game and Napoleon never got within 10 after that. The Comets defense swarmed the Pirates holding Napoleon to 13 1st half points and only 3 field goals in the half as Hanover-Horton led 39-13 at the break. The Comets opened up the lead to 38 late in the 3rd as their largest lead.
Luc Laketa led all scorers with 18 points and added 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Jack Brockie had 15 points and 3 assists, Mitch Sauber 12 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Trent Finegan had 9 points, Rhett Laketa 8 points and 3 assists, Conner Mortimer 4 points, Evan Keeder and Matt Johnson had 3 apiece, Brogan Brockie, Bryce Sanders, and Carson Sanders each had 2 points.
The Comets JV team lost to Napoleon 58-47.
