The Hanover-Horton Comets boys basketball was tested early Monday night by 10-3 Arbor Prep. The length and quickness of the Gators gave the Comets some problems early. Luc Laketa scored 7 of his game high 24 points in the 1st quarter to keep the Comets even at 12. Jack Brocki’s 8 points and Laketa’s 7 points in the 2nd quarter allowed the Comets to take 3 point lead into the locker room. The 3rd quarter was all Comets though as Hanover-Horton outscored Arbor Prep 32-7 en route to a 79-49 victory. The Comets move to 12-1 on the season.
The Comets shot 50% from the floor and 40% behind the 3-point arc while holding Arbor Prep to 32% from the floor. Brockie finished with 21 points and was 9/10 from the free throw line. He also had a team high 9 rebounds. Laketa had 5 boards and 4 assists to go with his 24 points. Mitch Sauber scored 13 points 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Trent Finegan had 5 points, Bryce Sanders and Rhett Laketa each had 4, Carson Sanders, Evan Keeder, Brogan Brockie, and Garrett Gumper each scored 2 points.
The JV Comets also defeated Arbor Prep 59-36.
Both Comets boys teams are back in action Wednesday evening at home starting with the JV game at 5:30 against East Jackson.
